METAL BOXES

I have a thing for metal boxes . . . of any shape and size. Well, pretty much any kind of box, of any kind of material, not caring what it's original use might have been.

These are my favorite ones right now.

I inherited the metal box/file below from my brother who inherited from my parents. I vaguely remember important documents, like birth certificates, etc., being stored in this metal file box when I was a kid. So, there's some sentimental value to it. I'm thinking of sprucing it up a bit with a coat of ORB paint. Not sure 'bout that yet.

The box below, as you can see, is an old metal lunch pail. Love it! Wish I had more. May have to add them to my "hunt-for-list"! Can't remember where I found this one. Most likely a junk shop. I painted it and added some cute ribbons to the handle and have been using it in my craft room as storage for years now.

Another junk shop find was this box, or more accurately drawer.

I have a feeling it was a drawer from a cabinet at a hardware store. The front, where the handle is, once had
1/4 Flange
very sloppily hand painted on it.

The letters/numbers have worn off because for a couple years I used this little drawer as a primitive planter for some outside flowers.

The newest, most beloved metal box added to my collection is this wonderful tool/tackle box. I snatched up this beauty at a yard sale for 50 cents.
Yes . . . half a dollar!

Look how great it is! I just love the ruler markings on the top.

Just the right amount of rust and the green color is perfect. I won't be changing a thing about this piece.
The little hinged tray with it's moveable divider thingy is so cool.

My plan is to use these boxes, and other unusual vessels, to store items/supplies in my craft room. I want to reduce the amount of contemporary storage pieces I'm currently using.

Of course, that chore's been on the to-do list for quite a while now. ;o)

Thanks for visiting!

Hi Carla! Love what you did with these boxes..so cute! I just visited your last post and as usual I'm in awe of your gardens! Have a tip for you with the weeds in the gravel paths...I just read it in a Martha mag and tried it myself this weekend... pour boiling water over them..poof! gone! works like a charm..just don't let it get near your plants!
Happy gardening!

These are great, Carla, and I love how you are repurposing them. The lunchbox is neat, and the ribbons you added to the handle complement the gray nicely. I'm eyeing your drawer as a ribbon holder. I'd like to find an old drawer to use for that purpose myself.
