THE CHAIR'S BIG REVEAL

Phew!!! I'll tell you, this project kicked my butt. It was definitely a force bigger than me. I'm sure I broke all the re-upholstery rules with this one! I think if it wasn't a recliner, it would have been a whole lot easier - not having to deal with moving parts and all.

I still have some small finish work to do here and there on THE CHAIR, and I think I want to add a box pleat ruffle along the sides under the arm rest just for a little style and character. The finished product is almost how I envisioned. I'm pretty happy with the results.

It's a big difference from how it was before, that's for sure. I'm not sure anyone else in the family likes it. "It's too white and wrinkly."
Ooohhh, and the soiled, tattered and torn look before was nice???
Humph . . . what do they know . . . they're all men - with no vision!

I would have taken photos of the process, but would have been embarrassed to share since I was winging the whole thing not really having a clue about what I was doing.

A few things I will share are I made the arm covers, seat and back detachable so if they become soiled, they can be removed to wash or replace. And since I used a drop cloth,

I won't get too chapped if something happens to the fabric which would require a "re-do". Oh, and in case you're wondering, the project cost me under $30. Not bad!

Here are the before pictures of the monster.

BEFORE - yuk!

AFTER - much better!

Now that it's pretty much done, I feel like I can finally move on to some other, big projects that I've been procrastinating on for . . . well . . . years now. I don't have any more excuses for not getting some of these projects done that have been waiting in the wings for far too long.

Thanks for visiting!

I am absolutely amazed and inspired! I don't think I am brave enough to tackle something like this but I love seeing and knowing that it can be done! Great job!

So much prettier now! And I can only imagine how difficult it would have been to try and recover a recliner like that! Great job!

I love your chair redo! You did a great job! I have a recliner that I would sooooo love to recover but not sure I would be successful.

Great job, Carla! A recliner must be tough to cover, but it looks like you did it and quite well! Great idea using dropcloth ~ yards of fabric at a good price.

Ta Da!!
It was worth the wait.
It looks wonderful and how happy you must feel. Hey, don't let those "guys" who don't like the chair sit in it. It looks destined to become your THRONE - you've earned it!!
Great JOB!!

Oh Carla it turned out WONDERFULLY!!! You did a fabulous job on it and guess what???? the guys are WRONG!!! White, wrinkly and FABULOUS! I also think it is GREAT that you made parts of it removeable so you can wash it. You should definitely have the confidence to do ANYTHING you wish now. You can definitely DO IT!!!!♥

What a great idea to have the some pieces removable for cleaning, especially in a house full of boys. I think the project turned out spectacular no matter what route you took to get there.

Way to go girl!
It couldn't have turned out better.
Watch out..now everyone will be wanting your help with all of their re-upholstery projects :)
SO SMART of you to make washable covers for those areas that get the most wear.
I have 3 chairs that need to be done. I even have the fabric.. but I just haven't had the courage to jump in and get started.
Seeing how great your project turned out, I think I will have to give it a go now.
Have a great day!

Carla-you are so talented. You come up with so many creative idea's. The chair rocks and love the fact that if you spill a Cosmo on it just stain stick and in the washer it goes.

Blogging Friend, I think you did an amazing job! It looks great and that you can take off parts of the chair and wash them is going to help it stay clean. Your family should be so proud of you! This was a big job to undertake. I remember my mom did this when I was a child and it wasn't easy. You're awesome! Joan

I love it! I actually have a recliner in my garage that I'd wanted to recover with drop cloths, as well, but I'd pretty much talked myself out of it. But, maybe I should give it a try after all. :)

great job on the recover- I love the idea of it being a drop cloth- very inexpensive, not to mention durable.

You are so talented to do that. I think it looks great.

Would you believe me if I told you I have the exact same red fabric that you used on part of your pillow on the right side of the chair? And that I just got back from Lowes and bought the exact same drop cloth and it is now in the washer? What can I say, great minds think alike!
