It's a Winter Wonderland

Yes it is! We are in the throngs of a major snowstorm, and I'm loving it! What makes snow so magical? I mean, really, it's just frozen rain, and rain's no fun.

Here in Delaware (along with most of the north eastern states), we're expecting to get up to 2 feet of snow. It's been quite a while since we've seen a storm of this size. Perfect gift-wrapping and cookie-baking weather.

Son No. 1 flew home yesterday from college.

Ain't he handsome? :o)
Actually, we changed his flight from late afternoon to a morning flight. Good thing we did. He's at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, and they got some pretty bad weather yesterday morning. Our airports here, Philly and Baltimore, are expecting six-plus hours delay with lots of likely cancellations. We might not have gotten him home if we hadn't changed his flight.

Our Bunco dinner went great! I have to send out kudos to the restaurant, Aqua Sol. The service was fantastic and the food was delish. Of course, I had camera issues. My batteries died. One of the other girls took lots of pics and she promised to burn them to a disc for me to share. Our gift exchange theme this year was tree ornaments. My Secret Santa - Thanks Donna!!! - gave me the cutest little glass Parfume bottle ornament and fish-net "Naughty" stocking filled with coal.

They are perfect on my pink "girlie" tree in my craft room.

This tree has a mix of ornaments - dollar store, vintage, and just fun ones.

Another treasured keepsake . . .

My grandmother primitively hand stitched my name and the year she presented the stocking, 1966 (I was 2.) on this simple, unassuming little stocking. It's so sweet.

Can you take any more decor pics? I wanted to share just a few more things. The ceramic pieces below were made (remember ceramic classes back in the 80's?) by one of hubby's favorite Aunts.

She made them and gave them to us not too many years after we were married. I really treasure them. I love how simply she finished the Nativity in an antique type of finish.

Some more random Christmassy views from around the house.

Absolutely today!

I'll leave you with this pic of Son No. 3 laying in a huge snow drift at our front porch. Brrrrr . . . .

Good idea to switch his flight. We don't have too much yet, but I've heard flights have already been cancelled. It will be even more magical if it's all gone by Monday, so I can drive to work instead of slip slide my way there! I am thankful it did hit on a weekend though.

WOW!!!! First I love the pictures of your tree and ornaments.

Second - THE SNOW!! OH I LOVE SNOW, but living in Louisiana, we usually get ice. However, where I now live (northwest of New Orleans) we had snow last year. About 6 inches and yes, I made my first snowman in years w/the help of my teenage son.

My mom, brother, niece, and nephew are in DC on a mini-vacation and I bet they are LOVING this!

Thank you for sharing & glad you son made it home.

Smiles~

Your backyard looks like my backyard with all the snow! Glad your son got out of Charlotte in the morning. The heavy stuff started right around noon here so he was lucky to get out. My daughter is at UNC too but in Chapel Hill! Love your girly tree!

wow Carla! I wondered how buried you were getting up there and you are! We've gotten about 5 inches, lots of wet snow, now waiting for it to get icy. I have to admit, maybe it's my age but I'm a party pooper when it comes to snow... and I grew up in New England! (well I moved south for more than one reason!!) So glad your son got home safe.. ours left a college in upper state PA and got home safe yesterday too, always such a relief:)
Have lot's of fun in all that white stuff...a white Christmas in Delaware..who knew?
hugs,
paula:)
